MD PhD Program in brief
The MD PhD Program offers knowledge, skills and support for medical students interested in and doing research. Program enhances students’ abilities to do research, produce new knowledge and make an academic career.
During their undergraduate years, medical students learn a lot about current views of medical information and its application to clinical practice. Relatively little emphasis, on the other hand, is traditionally placed on ways to produce new knowledge. This hampers the students’ capacity and possibilities to become involved in medical research.
By joining the MD PhD Program for Medical Students, students can enhance their scientific understanding and research skills. The studies combine theoretical reasoning on the philosophy, ethics, and history of science to very practical hands-on skills, such as academic communication of a research proposal. Thus, the program is designed to complement researcher training carried out at the Kauppi Campus of the University of Tampere.
